This is the Masters of 1000 series where most of the top seeds are playing which is after the ATP Masters in Toronto. The defending Champions is G. This is the first round clash between two American players in John Isner and Sam Querrey.

A month ago Isner reached the best ranking in his career after he was ranked eight in the ATP list. Before the start of this tournament his ranking dropped to a spot so now he comes into this tournament ranked ninth in the ATP list. He has managed to win 14 ATP titles in his career so far, whereby he managed to win two this season at tournaments in Atlanta and Miami. The Masters in Miami is the biggest trophy of Isner's career to date.
At this year's Wimbledon, he played well and reached the semi-finals and was only beaten after five sets by K. Anderson. Interestingly the last fifth set ended with a score of 24:26. In the other tournaments he played he has reached the quarterfinals of the 250 category tournaments.
Sam Querrey
Since the beginning of this season when he was the 11th player of the world, Querrey is far from his best at the moment. Prior to this tournament, his ranking is much poorer, and his ranking is now at 32nd in the ATP rankings. His wins and loss for this season so far is at 16 wins and 14 losses. In his career, he has managed to win 10 titles. His last two titles were from last season's tournaments at Los Cabos and Acapulco.
His notable result this season was at the tournament in New York. He reached the final but was beaten by K. Anderson after three sets. He also reached the quarter finals at the Masters in Indian Wells but was then beaten by M. Raonic.At Wimbledon, he managed to reached the third round, where he was beaten by French player G. Monfils.
Past Meetings:
They have met a total of seven times and Querrey has been more successful with five wins, while Isner won twice. But that was a long time ago and the last time they played each other was two years ago.
