It was certainly a case of a game of two halves last Sunday for FC Seoul in their season-opener away from home at Gangwon as they squandered a 1-0 lead at half-time to eventually lose 3-1 in what was an extremely disappointing second half showing.
Seoul imploded in the second half at Gangwon after finding themselves 1-0 up and manager Choi Yong-Soo will be desperate for a better display from his players as they prepare for the visit of one of the promoted teams from the K-League 2 this Sunday.
Recent results in the Korean top flight though suggest this clash may be far from being a straightforward encounter for the hosts as they’ve failed to win any of their last 6 matches overall, and have managed to pick up just 1 win from their last 10 matches as well.
This poor sequence of results for Seoul include losing their last 3 matches at home on the trot with losses to Sangju Sangmu 2-1, Ulsan Hyundai 1-0 and a 3-0 loss to Pohang Steelers.
Onto Gwangju, and the visitors also tasted defeat upon their return to the Korean top flight as they went down 2-0 at home to Seongnam in their season-opener at the Gwangju World Cup Stadium which incidentally became their third defeat on the trot in the K-League 1.
It’s been three seasons since Gwangju last appeared on the top flight stage but their previous campaign ended in relegation down to the second tier which was confirmed after losing their last two matches of that season to Daegu and Pohang Steelers.
Nevertheless, despite last weekend’s defeat, Gwangju may feel they have a decent chance in this Sunday’s clash against a wobbling FC Seoul outfit and although the straight win may be out of the question, the visitors could certainly cause their hosts a few problems in the final third.
6 of Gwangju’s last 9 away matches in K-League 1 have also seen both teams score.

Having lost their opening matches of the new season, both Seoul and Gwangju will be keen bounce back here and both should score goals as a result.
