Preview
There have been some major changes at both of these clubs in the off-season between 2019 and 2020 and that means there is a different kind of feeling going into this campaign. For the Daejeon Hana Citizen the new financial might that has been put behind them means they are amongst the favourites to end a five year stay in K League 2, while Chungnam Asan have become a 'citizen club' after previously being one who would be operated for those in military service.
That does mean Chungnam Asan are in something of a transitional season and they were beaten 0-1 by Bucheon 1995 last weekend. A poor end to last season meant then Asan Mugunghwa were not able to finish in the top four, but it was only in 2018 that they won this Division although were not able to take their place in the K League.
That title win will have given the Chungnam Asan fans some belief that they can challenge up the League standings, but the squad is much changed and that means needing time to come together. They did win 7 of their 18 away League games last season which will give them some confidence to take into this campaign, but the final League position is likely going to be determined by how well they can play at home.
Chungnam Asan have not won any of their last 8 games going back to last season, but the bigger concern has to be the 6 straight losses suffered heading into this weekend. They have not won any of their last 6 on their travels and have lost 4 of those, while Chungnam Asan have conceded three goals in each of their last couple of away games which have ended in defeat.
Heading to the Purple Arena to face one of the favourites for promotion is a huge challenge for Chungnam Asan and Daejeon Hana Citizen will be looking to build on the injury time goal which helped them win 1-2 at Suwon on the opening weekend. The side only finished 9th in the table last season, but the new financial power has seen much changes made to the squad and the expectation is they will be right there or thereabouts when it comes to promotion positions being decided.
The side did only win 3 of their 18 home League games last season and in the last four seasons Daejeon Hana Citizen have one top four finish. Those mental issues have to be overcome, but Daejeon Hana Citizen have lost 1 of their last 13 games going back to last season.
Daejeon Hana Citizen have won 3 of their last 5 games overall, while they snapped a 4 game run without a home win by beating Gwangju 3-1 here at the end of last season.
They were beaten in both home games played against Chungnam Asan last season by the same 0-1 scoreline.
Prediction
Many changes have been made at both Daejeon Hana Citizen and Chungnam Asan in the off-season and those have seen the stock of the former rise and the stock of the latter just dip.
Despite finishing 9th in this Division last season, Daejeon Hana Citizen have been able to bring in plenty of quality in preparation for 2020 and they are amongst the favourites for promotion. Losing both games to Chungnam Asan at home last season will be in the mind of the fans, but the improved squad should give Daejeon Hana Citizen every chance to snap that run.
The late goal scored last week will have helped give the whole squad a boost and I think Daejeon Hana Citizen should be too good here.
The Pick :
Daejeon Hana Citizen 2-1 Chungnam Asan
