Football : South Korea : K League

Preview
You have to go back a decade to find a time when Seongnam were regularly competing at the very top of the K League, but in more recent times they have spent a couple of seasons out of the top flight in South Korea. Last season the team finished 9th in the K League so it is a remarkable start to the 2020 campaign as Seongnam remain one of just two teams who have yet to be beaten.
The 0-1 win in the South Korean capital last weekend means Seongnam go into this weekend in 3rd place in the table and only a point behind the defending Champions. Maintaining such standards is going to be far from easy, but Seongnam can be encouraged by the fact that three of the four League games have been played away from home.
This is only the second home game of the season for Seongnam who played out a goalless draw with Incheon United in the sole fixture completed here. They are unbeaten in 5 games in a row in the League and Seongnam have won 3 of those, although they snapped a run of consecutive draws before the win at Seoul.
Now the side have to face a Daegu team who are in their fourth consecutive season in the K League and have improved their final position in each of the last five seasons. Daegu finished 5th last season and only just missed out on a top three spot, but they are down in 9th place after four games with 3 points from a possible 12 earned.
They have a 0-1-1 record away from home where Daegu have yet to score but conceded twice in a 2-0 defeat at Jeonbuk Motors. Too many draws was the main reason Daegu were not able to earn a top three spot in 2019, and that has to be a slight concern for them in the early portion of 2020 as well.
Daegu have won 1 of their last 9 games in the League going back to last season, although 5 of those have ended in draws. They had been unbeaten in 8 away games in the League before losing at Jeonbuk Motors, while Daegu had won 3 of the previous 5 on their travels prior to that defeat.
Seongnam were beaten in both home games against Daegu last season.
Prediction
The opening month of the season was a good one for Seongnam and not so good for Daegu, but the layers are yet to be convinced by the home team.
Seongnam are thus going into this one as the slight underdog and I have to believe Daegu are getting closer to a win having drawn 3 of the first 4 games in the League.
They did win here twice last season and Daegu have proven a stubborn team to beat over the last fifteen months which suggests backing them to finally put a win on the board here using the Asian Handicap is the way to go. That would return the stake in the event of another Daegu match finishing in a draw, but looks the way to approach this one.
The Pick :
Seongnam 0-1 Daegu
