Romania finally got themselves off the mark in this season’s Nations League campaign with a 1-0 home win against Finland which not only handed the Romanians a valuable three-point haul but it also ended a previously miserable run of four matches without a win in all competitions.
Romania had lost three of these preceding four games, losing to Greece, Montenegro (away) and Bosnia-Herzegovina (also away from home), with the latter two defeats being in this Nations League competition.
Indeed, Romania have found wins hard to come by overall as the hosts have registered just five victories in their last 16 matches, only three of which were actually achieved on home soil, where they’ve won just three of their last seven matches overall.
Montenegro made a solid start to their Nations League campaign as they recorded a 2-0 home win against Tuesday night’s opponents, Romania, but a 2-0 defeat away from home at Finland followed.
Nevertheless, Montenegro managed to pick up a useful point by way of a 1-1 draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina last time out and this will give the visitors a confidence boost ahead of their trip to Bucharest on Tuesday night.
Montenegro may well need this as well, as the visitors have lost their last three away games on the trot, having been defeated on the road at Norway, Armenia and Finland but the visitors could at least keep things close as they’ve lost by 2 goals or more in just three of their last 11 away games.
