The South Korean top flight action continue this weekend and Sunday morning features an intriguing clash between hosts, Suwon FC, and their visitors, Seoul, with both teams eager to further their ambitions of a top six finish in the K-League with a win at the Suwon Sports Complex.
Suwon FC currently occupy the last spot in the top six of the Korean top flight and the hosts will be desperate to hang onto their current position but this hasn’t always been the case this season as Suwon made a very ordinary start to this campaign.
The hosts had managed to collect just three wins from their opening 15 games in this season’s K-League with victories over Gangwon, Daegu and Gimcheon Sangmu but they’d also slipped to nine defeats within this period as well and a top six berth had looked beyond them at this stage.
However, Suwon have recently clicked into gear by putting a five-game unbeaten run together which includes four victories by way of wins over Gimcheon Sangmu, Pohang Steelers, local rivals Suwon Bluewings and Incheon United, so they’ll be in confident mood this weekend.
Seoul dropped down to 8th place in the K-League standings after being handed a 1-0 defeat on home soil by 2nd placed Jeonbuk Motors last time out so the visitors will be keen to bounce back with a positive result this Sunday as they now find themselves two points adrift of Suwon FC and the top six pack.
However, this may be easier said than done as Seoul have achieved just one league win from their last eight attempts, coming in the form of a 1-0 win away at Suwon Bluewings, but they may find the other club in Suwon a tougher nut to crack here.
Four defeats within this recent eight-match sequence also suggest that Seoul could struggle to grab all three points on Sunday morning, while results away from home have followed a similar pattern as well.
Seoul have won just once in their last nine away games and have drawn five of these matches, so they may have to settle for a point apiece against Suwon FC at best.
