Colombia will be eager to put an end to a dismal four-game winless run in these World Cup qualifiers when they welcome second from bottom nation Peru to their Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Melendez for this forthcoming CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier clash with both sides needing all three points.
Colombia currently occupy 6th place in the South American qualifying table where they hold a useful looking five-point buffer above 7th placed Venezuela ahead of this latest round of qualifying games, but having suffered three defeats within their last four games, the hosts desperately need a return to winning ways.
Recent losses to the likes of Uruguay, Ecuador and Brazil outweighed a 2-2 draw at home with Paraguay in their last qualifier but nevertheless, Colombia have shown they can produce decent results on home soil as they registered wins against Argentina and Chile earlier in the campaign.
Peru sit second from bottom and level on 10 points apiece with fellow strugglers Chile ahead of matchday 15 in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers but having collected just two wins from their 14 games so far in this campaign along with being dealt eight defeats, the visitors look to have their work cut out here.
Rare victories against Bolivia and Uruguay were both registered on home soil while Oscar Ibanez’s side have still yet to register a win on their travels in this World Cup qualifying campaign, picking up just a meagre solitary point from a possible 21 points on offer on the road.
That point was gained courtesy of a 0-0 draw away from home at Paraguay but six subsequent defeats on the trot on their travels suggest this upcoming encounter against Colombia could result in further heartache for La Bicolor.
The Betting Verdict
Colombia and Peru shared the points in a 1-1 stalemate earlier in the campaign in Peru but Colombia have a golden opportunity to cement their place in the top six with a much-needed win here.
