Maltese Premier League runners-up, Birkirkara, will play host to Moldovan visitors Petrocub in this Champions League 1st qualifying round 1st Leg at the Ta' Qali National Stadium with both sides keen to secure a lead ahead of next week’s return leg.

Indeed, Birkirkara recently played the Premier League title-holders Floriana in a club friendly towards the end of June where they registered a 2-1 win.
The new Moldovan Super Liga season has recently got underway and Petrocub have produced a promising start to the campaign as the visitors occupy 2nd place in the table and just two points behind the early league leaders Sheriff.
An opening day 1-1 draw with Balti was followed by picking up back-to-back wins against Zimbru and Politehnica, so Shota Makharadze’s side will be in confident mood that they can produce a result of some sort at the Ta' Qali National Stadium on Thursday night.
Petrocub had previously finished in 4th place in the Championship Group stage of last season’s Moldovan top flight campaign but as 3rd placed Sheriff also won the Cupa Moldova, the upcoming visitors were given their slot in the qualifying round.
