A 4-2 win on penalties for Celtic over their arch-rivals Rangers in the Scottish Cup prompted chaotic scenes at Ibrox last weekend but nevertheless, Celtic’s unbeaten run in all competitions stretched to four games ahead of this weekend’s action in the Scottish Premiership.
A previous 1-0 win away from home in Stuttgart in the Europa League was followed by an important 2-1 win on the road at Aberdeen in the domestic Premiership but Martin O’Neill’s side still trail the league leaders, Hearts, by a five-point margin.
In Celtic’s last home game in the Premiership, The Bhoys were handed a disappointing 2-1 loss to Hibernian at Celtic Park while a usually impeccable home record stands this season at 10-1-3 30/11, giving visitors a glimmer of hope of a result.
That’s certainly what Motherwell will be hoping for as they look to bounce back from last week’s disappointing 2-1 defeat away from home at Dundee which ended an impressive nine-game unbeaten run in the Scottish top flight.
With no fewer than seven wins collected along the way within that nine-game sequence, Motherwell will still fancy their chances of gaining a result of some sort at Celtic Park on Saturday afternoon especially as the visitors are unbeaten in their last three encounters on the road as well as recording a 2-0 home win over Celtic in their previous meeting.
An overall away record which stands at 4-7-3 21/14 suggests Jens Askou’s side could have a decent chance of picking up a point in Glasgow on Saturday afternoon.
The Betting Verdict
Celtic have slipped up occasionally this term and Motherwell will be keen to exploit any chinks in the hosts’ armour here.
The Pick :
Celtic 1-1 Motherwell
