A rejuvenated Lyon outfit will be going in search of a third league win on the trot in the French top flight on Saturday afternoon when Paulo Fonseca’s side play host to Ligue 1 strugglers Auxerre at their Groupama Stadium as the upcoming hosts also look to cement their place in the top three.
After having had to endure a worrying six-game winless spell in Ligue 1 which included losses at the hands of Strasbourg, Marseille and Monaco, Lyon have responded in positive fashion by picking up recent back-to-back wins against the likes of Lorient and PSG, the latter being a particularly impressive 2-1 win away from home.
Lyon have performed pretty consistently though on home soil as the hosts possess a solid looking record of 10-1-3 23/10 so far this season.
Auxerre have been involved in three stalemates on the trot in Ligue 1 which has prevented the visitors from lifting themselves out of the relegation play-off spot down near the bottom of the Ligue 1 table although Christophe Pélissier’s side do bring a stubborn four-match unbeaten run into this upcoming encounter.
An earlier 3-0 home win over Brest was followed by points picked up in draws with Le Havre, Nantes and Monaco respectively, while the bigger picture shows Auxerre have suffered just one loss in their last seven games overall.
However, with just one win and being involved in five draws, the best that Auxerre can appear to hope for here on Saturday is a point against a Lyon side hell-bent on securing a top three finish, especially as Auxerre possess a poor away record of 1-6-8 12/24.
