*A place in the La Liga 2 play-off final at stake on Wednesday night*
Malaga head into this vitally important return leg of their two-legged semi-final affair with Las Palmas on the back of last week’s 1st 1-0 win away at Gran Canaria in confident mood that the hosts can progress through to the play-off final in Spain’s second tier on Wednesday night.
Despite a temporary hiccup earlier in April which saw Malaga handed worrying back-to-back defeats at the hands of Almeria and Castellon respectively, Malaga have since steadied the ship with a solid looking six-match unbeaten run in La Liga 2 which includes picking up no fewer than five wins in the process.
To Juan Funes’s side credit, four of these five wins were registered on their travels with away wins captured at Eibar, Ceuta, Real Zaragoza and the aforementioned 1-0 win at Las Palmas, while also collecting a 2-1 home win against Sporting Gijon - Wednesday night’s hosts also finished the regular La Liga 2 campaign with an impressive home record of 12-7-2 42/24.
Las Palmas missed an opportunity to make the most of home advantage in last week’s 1st leg encounter at Gran Canaria and they now face the tough task of handing what would only be a third loss at home to their upcoming opponents, Malaga, on Tuesday night at La Rosaleda.
Results overall still appear to be encouraging for Luis Garcia Fernandez’s side as the visitors have been dealt just two defeats in their last eight matches in La Liga 2 which came in the shape of losses to FC Andorra and Malaga, while picking up five wins as well.
However, the visitors have been hampered by inconsistent results away from home throughout this season as their final away record of 8-7-6 24/26 testifies and recent exchanges with Malaga have resulted in disappointing results.
The Betting Verdict
Malaga have won each of the last three meetings against Las Palmas and the hosts with the handicap here looks a solid play.
The Pick :
Malaga 1-0 Las Palmas
