A Sports Betting Pick by Stu

Canterbury Bulldogs v New Zealand Warriors
Rugby League : Australia : NRL Season 2026
Saturday 25th July 2026 - KO 1730 AEST

Canterbury Bulldogs

After a very poor start to the season the Bulldogs appear to be getting their systems right just in time to make a push for the finals. Cameron Ciraldo's system continues to frustrate opposition attacks through aggressive line speed and disciplined edge defence. At Accor Stadium, Canterbury have won four of their past five matches, making them one of the toughest teams to beat on home soil.

The Dogs are placed, 10th 8-9, just one win outside the top 8 and now have everything to play for as their form turns the corner at the right time. Captain Stephen Crichton returns after missing last week's match, he is expected to slot into the halves again, providing a massive boost both in attack and defence. His leadership has become invaluable, while Matt Burton who looks locked into the centres now continues to possess one of the game's most dangerous kicking games.
Burton's towering bombs and long kicking often dictate field position, allowing Canterbury to gradually wear opponents down.

Through the middle, Max King, Viliame Kikau and Jacob Preston have consistently laid the platform. Kikau returned last weekend from injury and remains one of the competition's most destructive edge forwards, capable of turning a game with one powerful carry or offload. Reed Mahoney's energy around dummy-half ensures the Bulldogs rarely lose intensity, particularly through the opening 20 minutes.

New Zealand Warriors

The Warriors enter a heavyweight contest carrying enormous confidence, currently placed 2nd off a great 12-5 record and provided their form doesn’t fall off a cliff, they should make the top 4 and therefore are a real chance to claim their first ever title.

Andrew Webster's side continues to prove it can win in multiple ways. Whether through dominant forward play, disciplined defence or moments of brilliance from their outside backs, New Zealand have become one of the competition's most balanced teams. Their impressive record against sides outside the top eight has kept them near the top of the ladder, but this represents another opportunity to prove they can defeat a direct premiership rival away from home.

Mitch Barnett has enjoyed arguably the finest season of his career, consistently leading the middle alongside James Fisher-Harris. Wayde Egan remains the heartbeat of the Warriors, controlling the tempo around the ruck with outstanding service and intelligent decision-making.

Out wide, Alofiana Khan-Pereira has been one of the buys of the season. His finishing ability has added genuine strike power, with the winger already scoring 12 tries from just 10 appearances in Warriors colours. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak continues to provide experience, while Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad's work rate from the back remains among the best in the competition.

The Warriors defence has been their biggest weapon throughout 2026. They concede very few soft tries, scramble exceptionally well and rarely beat themselves through poor discipline. Their ability to absorb pressure before striking through quick transitions has become a hallmark of Webster's coaching.

Odds

The Warriors start as favourites despite the home ground stat against them, $2.40 to $1.60, the line is 4.5 points and combined points 42.5

The Betting Verdict

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs return to Accor Stadium for what shapes as one of the matches of the round, hosting the New Zealand Warriors in a genuine showdown with big implications for both teams. The warriors have established themselves as premiership contenders throughout 2026 and Canterbury have rediscovered their confidence with consecutive victories as they chase a top 8 finish which looked highly unlikely just a few weeks ago.

While the Warriors continue to build one of the most complete resumes in the competition despite battling injuries for much of the season. Overall record is close, 21-2-19 and this is the first meeting between these clubs in 2026. The venue stats favour the home team, 54% for Canterbury at Accor while the Warriors are 11-16.

Canterbury will look to slow the contest down, dominate field position through Burton's kicking game and challenge the Warriors physically through the middle. If Mahoney and King can generate momentum early, the Bulldogs are more than capable of controlling possession and forcing New Zealand into an arm wrestle. However, Barnett and Fisher-Harris have consistently won the middle battle against quality opposition, while Egan's service allows New Zealand to shift the point of attack quickly. Their outside backs have also shown an ability to finish opportunities that many teams simply don't create.

History slightly favours Canterbury, they've won the last three meetings between the clubs and have been particularly strong at Accor Stadium. However, season form paints a different picture. The Warriors have looked the more complete football side throughout 2026, particularly defensively, and they continue to find ways to win despite injuries and representative interruptions.

The biggest factor may be discipline. Both teams defend exceptionally well, meaning penalties, repeat sets and field position will likely determine the outcome. Expect a physical contest where points are difficult to come by and every mistake is magnified. This doesn't feel like a game that gets away from either side.

Prediction: Warriors by 4.
