Everton

To say the Everton fanbase has erupted in fury over the last few days will be an understatement and there is going to be a potentially toxic environment produced by those in the stands at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday. Some of those creating the 'atmosphere' inside the Stadium are set to be withdrawing the support for this fixture and there is a real feeling that David Moyes has been let down by the board.

There has been no doubt that Everton have needed more players, but they have somehow botched the final days of the summer transfer window to end up losing more players than they have replaced. The incredible end to the Folarin Balogun transfer with the player turning down the move AFTER the deal-sheet to earn a two hour extension had been handed in has only increased the pressure on the Everton board.

David Moyes is doing his part by helping Everton earn 4 points in the Premier League and a place in the League Cup Third Round, but he is going to need a lot of luck with injuries between now and January. Frustratingly for the manager, the statement that Everton's owners felt missing out on European Football was a 'failure' last season means those ambitions feel even further away right now.

Christian Norgaard is expected to miss out, but Jack Grealish arrived on loan and should be available.

Manchester United

After the upset loss at Hull City on the opening weekend, Manchester United could have done without falling behind against Ipswich Town last Sunday. A slip towards the end of the half allowed Manchester United to counter attack to equalise when looking short of ideas and Michael Carrick will have been pleased with the second half performance in the 5-2 win.

The summer transfer window was not attacked nearly as much as Manchester United fans may have been hoping, but the club do feel that Carrick has enough options to put together a solid four month period before reassessing moves in January. Getting back into the Champions League has to be the main target for Manchester United and they will be looking for a much better result in the second away Premier League game of the season compared with the first at the MKM Stadium.

Manchester United have won 6 of the last 8 Premier League games following the win over Ipswich Town, but the only defeat in that time was also the last away game played. Before losing at Hull City, Manchester United had been unbeaten in 3 away Premier League games under Michael Carrick and had won twice in that run.

Matthijs de Ligt and Mason Mount could both be ready to travel to Merseyside, but Carlos Baleba and Amad are expected to be ruled out.

Head to Head

Both Premier League fixtures between Everton and Manchester United ended 0-1 to the away team last season.

Manchester United are now unbeaten in 4 visits to Everton and have won 3 of those matches.

Prediction

There are always going to be holes within a squad that fans would have hoped their respective clubs would have addressed in the transfer window, but Manchester United fans are frustrated that defensive reinforcements have not arrived with more fixtures to be played this season compared with last.

Michael Carrick may also be disappointed, but three centre midfielders have arrived and the manager will have to find results with those he can call upon.

Manchester United fans might be frustrated, but Everton fans are apoplectic after a baffling end to the summer transfer window.

It has felt like a really unprofessional window, which has put pressure on David Moyes with limited numbers of senior players, while a demand is growing for CEO Angus Kinnear to be fired and the owners to make big changes or sell the club.

Even a group of supporters who have been responsible for creating a positive atmosphere at the new Everton home are standing down and the expectation is that the crowd could turn hostile very quickly on Sunday.

Winning games will keep a lid on things to some extent and Everton have made a decent start to the season, but maintaining those levels will be tough with one recognised senior striker and having sold Iliman Ndiaye.

Jack Grealish can inspire the supporters, but Everton have been struggling defensively in the opening two Premier League games and the team were beaten 8 times at home last season. They got the better of Crystal Palace two weeks ago, but performances like that will lead to a lot more negative than positive results and Everton will have to make a fast start if only to keep the fans behind them.

They can do that at home, but this feels a very good time for Manchester United to visit, despite not being overly convincing in the first two weeks of the season.

Manchester United will be able to create chances against this Everton team who have to try and get forward at home and they have enough quality in the final third to make those chance pay off.

As poor as they were at the MKM Stadium two weeks ago, Manchester United have found a way to win 6 of the last 8 away Premier League games and the feeling is that they could not have handpicked a better time to play at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Nothing will come easy against a David Moyes team, but Manchester United should be looking to exploit a crowd ready to let loose on the board and that can see the away team earn an important three points.
