Arsenal
The defeat at the Amex Stadium might be a positive for the Arsenal squad as a reminder that they cannot take anything for granted in the Premier League from week to week. The defending Champions have rarely been humbled in the manner they were in the last fixture played before the international break, but you have to imagine Mikel Arteta has been desperate for the Premier League to resume.
The Gunners are 2nd in the Premier League having seen the 100% start to the season ended in the 3-0 loss to Brighton and they are 3 points behind Manchester City, at least before any punishment has been handed to the latter. The record at the Emirates Stadium was key for Arsenal last season and they have begun with a 2-0-0 record here in the top flight this time around.
Arsenal had won 12 of the previous 13 games in all competitions and had not lost any of the previous 15 games in normal time before the loss at Brighton. The side have won the last 5 home Premier League games since the 1-2 defeat to Bournemouth in April.
The international break has not been a good one for the health of the squad with the likes of Christos Tzolis and Kai Havertz doubts. Ezri Konsa and Declan Rice were allowed to leave the England squad and are hoping to be passed fit, while the likes of Ben White and Cristhian Mosquera are also going to need tests.
Leeds United
We are still in the very early stages of the Premier League, but there is a real feeling that this could be a hugely open race for the European places come the end of the season. That does not only mean for places in the Europa League or Conference League, but perhaps even for a spot in the Champions League and Leeds United fans have to be very excited about the start made to this campaign.
The League Cup run has concluded, but Leeds United have been sitting in 5th place in the Premier League through the long international break and they are one of a handful of unbeaten teams. The side have a 1-1-0 record away from home in the top flight where Leeds United have scored 2 goals and conceded 1.
Leeds United have lost 1 of the 7 games played in all competitions this season, but 3 of the last 5 fixtures have ended in stalemate. Going back to last season, Leeds United have suffered a single loss in the last 10 away Premier League games played.
Joe Rodon is expected to miss out, but Harry Wilson is hoping to be available for selection.
Head to Head
Arsenal thumped Leeds United 5-0 at home and 0-4 at Elland Road in the Premier League last season.
Arsenal have won the last 7 home fixtures against Leeds United in all competitions.
Prediction
The Premier League returns this weekend, but almost all fans will be wondering about the sanctions that may be placed on Manchester City after the club were found guilty of 'cheating' in their build towards the top of English Football.
You have to imagine the Arsenal fans will be letting everyone know where they stand on those matters, but Mikel Arteta and the players have to focus on the field.
Arsenal were beaten handily at Brighton last time out and it may be a source of frustration that they have had to wait three weeks to make up for that performance. It has also been a difficult international break for the squad with a number of important players picking up injuries that leave them doubtful for this game.
However, Arsenal are back at home and there is still enough quality that can be called upon to make them deserving favourites.
Last season they crushed Leeds United home and away, although Daniel Farke's team are playing with a lot more confidence than when they visited the Emirates Stadium in August 2025.
Leeds United were also beaten at home by a wide margin, but the team have put a solid start on the board this time around and the players are all well aware of what is expected from them. The squad is also much healthier than Arsenal's, but Leeds United have struggled with the balance between attack and defence.
They have produced a couple of strong away results, but Leeds United will have to be better than what they have shown to earn a positive result here. Scoring against this Arsenal defence is always going to be challenging, even with the injuries stretching options, and there is enough in the final third to believe the Champions will find what they need to secure another relatively comfortable win over this opponent.
The Pick :
Arsenal 2-0 Leeds United
