Tottenham Hotspur
Roberto De Zerbi had to be wondering whether it was going to be another night in the office where he could bemoan the lack of composure shown by his Tottenham Hotspur team in the final third. Any kind of clinical display would have meant Spurs leaving Old Trafford with all three points, but ultimately they salvaged a draw thanks to a fortunate deflection off the head of Dominic Solanke and it does give the squad something to build on.
The manager has been able to take the squad away for some team building following the draw at Old Trafford and with the next Premier League fixture scheduled for Monday evening. The point earned moved Tottenham Hotspur up into 19th place in the table, but they may kick off back in bottom place if Fulham and Bournemouth earn positive results earlier in the weekend. That would mean some pressure on Spurs who have a 0-1-2 record at home in the top flight.
Tottenham Hotspur have not won any of the last 6 games in all competitions since beating Charlton Athletic in the League Cup Second Round, but they have drawn 3 of the last 4 Premier League fixtures. Last time out at home, Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 2-3 by Aston Villa and that means they have won 1 of the last 14 home League games played.
Rodrigo Bentancur will begin a domestic suspension that will see him miss all of the League games to be played in October. Both Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski are inching closer to a return.
Coventry City
The extended international break may have felt like it came at a poor time for Frank Lampard and his Coventry City team who would have wanted to build on the 0-1 win at Nottingham Forest. Some fans may have been concerned that the momentum could have been lost, but the players came out with intensity and confidence on Monday night and thumped Newcastle United 4-1 for a first home Premier League win in a quarter of a century.
Back to back victories have pushed Coventry City up into 14th place in the Premier League table and it will have given everyone associated with the club some real confidence about what can be achieved. The Sky Blues have a 1-0-2 away record in the top flight where they have scored 1 goal and conceded 4.
Coventry City had won a League Cup tie at Plymouth Argyle, but had lost 4 games in a row in all competitions before upsetting Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. Another upset over Newcastle United has given the squad a lift, while Coventry City fans will travel to North London having seen the team push Manchester City when losing 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium last month.
Taiwo Awoniyi is available to travel, but it would not be a surprise if Frank Lampard sticks with the starting eleven that began the thumping win over Newcastle United.
Head to Head
Tottenham Hotspur beat Coventry City 0-2 at The CBS Arena in September 2024 in the League Cup and they have won 4 Cup ties against this opponent since they both played in the top flight in the 2001/02 season.
Spurs are unbeaten in 5 when hosting Coventry City and have won 3 in a row against them, although the last was in January 2013 at White Hart Lane.
Prediction
Being out of European competition means being ripe for Monday Night Football selection and that is the case for Tottenham Hotspur when playing the last Premier League game of the weekend.
It is an important game for the hosts as well as for Coventry City with the latter picking up momentum following consecutive Premier League wins.
Frank Lampard will be really pleased with the efforts his squad have produced, although the underlying numbers need to be improved if Coventry City are going to create a sustainable run of positive results. Teams can overachieve once they feel confident and settled, but Coventry City have room for improvement in what is going to be a season long struggle to avoid the drop.
Despite spending lavishly in the summer transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur fans are concerned this is going to be another campaign in which they flirt with relegation. Late season results just about kept them in the top flight last season, but Tottenham Hotspur have opened the season with some poor results this time around.
However, Roberto De Zerbi has to believe the tide will turn considering the levels of performance being produced.
Tottenham Hotspur have create chances, but they have been wasteful in the final third and ultimately that wastefulness has been punished. It was the case in the home defeats to Newcastle United and Aston Villa, but Tottenham Hotspur scrambled a late point at Old Trafford last weekend and it is a result that they can use to build up some confidence.
It was a fixture in which Tottenham Hotspur got into several threatening positions and they are likely going to find spaces to exploit against this Coventry City defence.
Of course it is hard to trust a team who have been lacking any real composure in the final third, but Spurs are getting closer and this may be a fixture in which they can break through.
Coventry City will offer a threat on the counter attack and the longer Spurs fail to score, the more dangerous the away team will feel.
However, teams cannot continue to create chances like Tottenham Hotspur have been and not begin to take advantage. The frustration for Roberto De Zerbi is the lack of composure in the final third, but Spurs will start winning games with the quality of opportunities being created and they should have enough chances in this one to eventually come through with a first victory of the season in impressive fashion.

BEST BETTING TIP :
I'll back Tottenham Hotspur - 1.25 Asian Handicap at 2.01 with Cloudbet.. and (hint hint) is NOT taking Tottenham to win at under 1.50 !!!
My sheet has these sides rated almost dead even right now - 956 v 957 and that translates to a home win chance of just 42%
of course we know that Tottenham cannot continue to keep missing chances, finding new ways to f*&k up, and eventually they are going to win.
But, Coventry have actually won their last two games, Tottenham are yet to win in the league this season, and you can get 2.75 at CLoudbet for Coventry +1/2 goal start to win or draw.
When a trend is profitable you run on it until it fails ... so, guess where my money will go ?
