Tottenham Hotspur
8th EPL in 08/09 with 51 points
Last season saw Spurs start the season for the second year running very poorly and yet again a new man came in and this time in was Harry Redknapp and he then steered Spurs to a very healthy 8th in the EPL last season and to be honest at one point there was talk of European football, but of course that did not happen.
The main reason for this was that Spurs would do well for about 4 games and then lose a match and then the same routine would happen all over again and as such they missed out but I dont think any Spurs fans would have a go at the team for that.
Spurs have been very busy this pre-season and have played 8 games and have done well, only losing once to Celtic while at the same time only conceding three goals in the eight games. They have beaten fellow EPL teams Hull and West Ham during this eight game pre-season.
Spurs have let Darren Bent leave in the summer for Sunderland while bringing in Kyle Naugton and Peter Crouch.
Liverpool
2nd EPL in 08/09 with 86 points
Liverpool had a very good season last year and only missed out on the EPL title by four points, but I have to say at no point for me did I ever think they would win the title. Which seems very odd when you consider they only lost twice all season.
Liverpool won their last five games of the season and when they drew 4-4 with Arsenal at Anfield then I guess that marked the end of the title chances but then again hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Like Spurs, Liverpool have played a lot during pre-season also playing eight games. Only one of these were at home and they lost that 2-1 last time out to Ath Madrid. They also lost 3-0 to Espanyol so not a good pre-season when playing Spanish teams.
I don't think the in coming players to Liverpool are finished yet and I think more players will join Glen Johnson who was the big money signing from Portsmouth. The main player who has left was Alonso who went to Real Madrid for around 30 million.
Head 2 Head
Not much between the two team when they met at White Hart Lane with over the last six meetings, Spurs have won 2, Liverpool 2 and 2 draws.
Verdict
Have to say that when I saw this was on the TV, I thought it would be a good game to watch and also have a little bet on, and most of the day I've been thinking about the draw, which is still in my mind but I'm going to stick my neck out and go for a Liverpool win.
I'm still not sure if Liverpool will/can win the EPL this season, but they will want to get of to a good start and if I remember correctly Liverpool normally do start well and if the last couple of seasons are anything to go by then Spurs don't start well.
So Liverpool it is, but do be careful as like every opening game, funny results do happen and this could well be one of them. You can around 2.40 which seems very good value to me.
