Football: England, Championship 2009/2010
Saturday 22nd August 2009 - Kickoff 3.00pm
Crystal Palace (10th - Record : 1-1-1 4:3)
Palace came into the season as lively outsiders for promotion this season with Warnock in the helm. They have a great young side that is hungry for success and have started very solidly this season.
Palace began with a 1-1 draw followed by a cup win midweek. Then the very controversial game away at Bristol City where Palace clearly scored but never got the goal only to go on and lose the game 1-0 in the 89th minute.
Palace reacted superbly and put in a quality performance for a 3-1 win at Ipswich. Former Geordie Ambrose got 2 of the goals and is looking very dangerous.
Palace should really be unbeaten this campaign and everybody involved with the club is angry about the Bristol game but they seem to have come back from that.
Young star Victor Moses has been linked with a move away from Palace though which could spell danger. They will be eagerly awaiting the Geordies coming to town though and will hope to make a statement in this game.
Newcastle United (3rd - Record : 2-1-0 5:1)
3 games played for 2 wins, 1 draw and 3rd in the league. Fantastic from the toon so far but they can't get too carried away.
The West Brom point was a great result but they really weren't a physical test as they like to play football. The 2 home games were against weak opposition so 6 points was to be expected really.
I think this is the game where Newcastle really find out what life is like in the Championship. Palace will pile the pressure on and try to rough the Geordies up and it will be interesting to see how they cope.
Newcastle were great again in the first 15 mins against Sheff W but then couldn't kill them off and had to settle for 1-0 (which I don't mind but opposition is always in with a chance).
Newcastle will want to show that they are not just solid at home and will also want to prove a point in this league.
The Betting Verdict
Very tough game to predict but I really do think Newcastle will struggle here.
I'm not impressed at all with Coloccini and I think he could be a weak link and I will go with Palace Draw No Bet here. I was going to tip the draw up but I'll take a chance here.
Will be a very interesting game and I would personally be very happy with a point but one mistake could cost us (Newcastle).
UPDATE :
Looks like Steven Taylor will be on his way to Everton soon - just when things are looking promising we go and sell another quality player and a guy who is geordie through and through.
Not sure if he will play this Saturday and if he doesn't, certainly get on Palace
