Introduction :
After they had met for the very first time at the Australian Open, now Federer and Tsitsipas will once again play each other, this time at the ATP tournament in Dubai. In the semi-finals Federer easily defeated B. Coric, while Tsitsipas barely got passed G. Monfils.
Roger Federer
Roger has not made any significant result this season as he failed to defend his Australian Open title from last year. But now he will be looking to win his 100th title in this ATP tournament. Even though he would like to win his jubilee at a Grand Slam or Master Series tournament but the ATP in Dubai cannot be underestimated as it traditionally gathers world’s best players as well. He came into the tournament with a modest win/loss record of 3 wins and 1 defeat. Interestingly his last defeat came up against today's opponent.
Roger lost to Tsitispas in the fourth round of the Australian Open where he lost a large number of points but he would be devastated after failing to go to the final and defending his title at the first Grand Slam - the Australian Open. Since then he has dropped to 7th in the latest ATP rankings as well. In the semi finals against B. Coric, the Swiss di not use much of his strength as he needed only 68 mionutes to wrap up the match. In terms of statistics it was all mostly on the Swiss side.
Stefanos Tsitsipas:
In the semi finals, Tsitsipas managed to get past Monfils in a very interesting and uncertain match that took 3 hours. In the course of the match we saw a lot of attractive points and chances to make a break occured. At the start of the match the French player Monfils has a better start and was more dangerous. Tsitsipas struggled in his service games and he was saved by several break points in almost each service game.
His opponents could not finish the match as he missed a lot of chances. In the second set, the French player had advantage of one break and won first set and it seemed that Monfils would win easily after two sets but the situation got complicated after Tsitispas managed to make break and then equalized the result in sets to 1-0 after winning the tie break. Tsitsipas won by 4-6,7-6 and 7-6 in the end.
