Football: Scottish Premier League
Saturday 28th November Kick Off 3pm
Celtic (2nd) Home Record W3 D2 L0
St Mirren (7th) Away Record W2 D0 L3
Celtic face St Mirren on Saturday on the back of a 2-1 defeat at Tanadice last Sunday. Celtic went 1-0 up in the second half thanks to a Barry Robson penalty but conceded 2 late goals to lose by a 2-1 scoreline. The 2 goals just highlighted Celtic's problems in central defence as both goals were headers from set pieces.
Celtic have won only 2 games in their last 10 in all competions, they're worst start to a season for a decade. Its worrying times at Celtic Park as new boss Tony Mowbary comes under pressure to re-build the side. Despite this they still lie second only a point behind Rangers but with a game more played.
However on a few occasions this season Celtic have managed to win by the narrowest of margins, such as wins at Hibs by 1-0 and Hamilton 2-1 and a last gasp winner over Hearts at Celtic Park.
But after last weeks defeat I'm in no doubt that Celtic will be fired up for this one and will be looking to please their fans with a convincing win. Winger Aiden Mcgeady said during the week that if he was one of the fans he wouldn't pay to go watch them at the moment. The Celtic fans who do turn up on Saturday will demand nothing less than a comfortable victory.
St Mirren for their part have done ok this season so far. They have been given plenty of plaudits for they have played football and indeed some of their results so far this season. Last week they held in form Hibs to a 1-1 draw, but boss Gus Mcpherson saw it as 2 points dropped as his side missed several good chances to win the game.
Last season St Mirren got to the semi final of the Scottish Cup beating Celtic along the way. Only weeks before knocking them out they lost 7-0 at Celtic Park in a league game. They showed tremendous character in coming back from that. They also beat Rangers 1-0 in the SPL at home. St Mirren would be a side expected to be in the relegation battle but on their day can certainly cause an upset.
However despite these good results, in recent weeks the Saints form shows just 1 win in 5 and that was in the CIS Cup over Motherwell. Celtic's defeat last week will mean they are under serious pressure for a win and it could be a long afternoon for Gus Mcpherson's side.
CELTIC LAST 5
Dundee United 2-1 Celtic
Falkirk 3-3 Celtic
Hamburg 0-0 Celtic (CIS Cup)
Celtic 3-0 Kilmarnock
Celtic 0-1 Hearts (CIS Cup)
ST MIRREN LAST 5
St Mirren 1-1 Hibernian
Rangers 2-1 St Mirren
St Mirren 0-2 Hamilton
St Mirren 3-0 Motherwell ( CIS Cup)
St Mirren 3-3 Motherwell
VERDICT
I think Celtic will bounce back from last weeks defeat and do it with a comfortable victory.
