Burnley
Every time Burnley seem to have turned a corner, they take a step back and that was the case again for them this week as they followed a late winner at Derby County with a surprisingly easy defeat at Swindon Town in the Capital One Cup. This Jekyll and Hyde nature of the team means the best they can really hope for is to maintain their position in the Championship this season.
It was a welcome three points for the side at Pride Park last weekend, a result that pushed Burnley up to 16th in the table as they moved onto 9 points for the season. The side have a 2-0-1 record at Turf Moor this season, scoring 8 goals and conceding 5 in those games.
There isn't really a lot to say about Burnley's current form as they have won 4 games and lost 5 with 1 draw from all competitions this season and have been very inconsistent as I mentioned. At least they can say they have been a little more productive at home, losing 1 of their last 6 home games in the Championship.
Millwall
Kenny Jackett wouldn't be surprised to see his Millwall side sitting in the wrong half of the table as the only expectation at the club is making sure they are still a Championship side next June. They have had a tough start to the season, but this is going to be a tough season.
Millwall are currently 22nd in the Championship table, occupying one of the relegation spots, but they have earned 6 points and the Division is so tight that one win will shoot them up the table. The side have a 1-0-2 away record this season, scoring 5 goals and conceding 8.
They are going through a tough period though as Millwall have lost 4 of their last 5 games including the last 3 in a row. The side may have lost their last 2 away games in the Championship, but I wouldn't under-estimate them as they had won 5 of 6 previous to that. They are also capable of scoring goals on their travels as they have found the back of the net in 13 of their last 14 away games in the League.
Head to Head
Burnley will have to be careful as they have been thumped in the last two games they have hosted Millwall including a 1-3 loss last season.
Previous to this mini-run, Burnley had been unbeaten in 7 home games against Millwall.
Prediction
I really hate backing over 2.5 goals at short odds against, but this going to be the second game of the week where that is exactly the situation I am placing myself in.
Both of these sides have had a tough defending and are conceding a fair few goals, while they also have the attacking threat at the other end to think both should be capable of scoring goals and taking advantage of the chances that are going to come their way.
The last three times they have played each other at Turf Moor have also seen at least 3 goals being scored between the teams and recent results for both teams suggests they will each get one here and then I'll just hope someone can find a bit extra and do enough to earn the win.
