WREXHAM v LUTON TOWN
Football – England – Blue Square Premier
Saturday 16th March 2013 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

WREXHAM

Blue Square leaders (albeit on goal difference) Wrexham, take on title pretenders Luton Town at the Racecourse ground on Saturday afternoon as the hosts look to open up a points gap over fierce promotion rivals Kidderminster who are level on points with them.

Wrexham are ahead of Kidderminster thanks to a six goal cushion and this is largely down to The Dragons’ firepower up front with goals coming from almost every position of the field but the pick are Wright (13 goals, 8 assists), Ormerod (7 goals, 6 assists), Ashton (5 goals, 7 assists) and new signing and striker Dele Adebola.

Wrexham have maintained their charge for automatic promotion with recent wins over Barrow 1-0 away, a 4-1 home win over Ebbsfleet United and another away win at Lincoln City on Tuesday night winning 2-1. They were held at home 1-1 by Alfreton Town and lost at Dartford but their home record of 9-6-2 40/20 should be too strong for an inconsistent Luton Town outfit.

Wrexham have also scored in all of their last fifteen home matches and with a pretty solid defensive line, they should take the points against a disappointing Luton Town.

LUTON TOWN

Onto the visitors Luton Town then, and the pre-season promotion favourites have flattered to deceive yet again this season as they flounder in eighth place some 21 points adrift of tonight’s hosts and the gap has been a large one during this campaign.

Luton Town have won just once in their last eleven BSP matches which was a narrow 1-0 win at strugglers Stockport County but five defeats and five draws is not a good enough return for a side that were touted as early season favourites to go up to League Two.

Luton’s away record stands at 7-4-8 21/28 and like their overall record they’ve won just once in their last eleven on their travels with defeats at Hereford United, Newport County, Woking, Barrow, Dartford and Braintree Town in recent weeks and The Hatters managed only a point at relegation threatened Nuneaton Town in their last away match.

THE BETTING VERDICT:

Wrexham have numerous attacking outlets at their disposal, plus a strong home record at the Racecourse ground, so I’ll back The Dragons to slay the hapless Hatters and give the quarter ball away in what should be a comfortable Wrexham win, perhaps even by 3-1.

The Pick :

Wrexham 3 Luton Town 1
