Scottish League Two newcomers, East Kilbride, will kick off their competitive season with a home tie against Scottish Championship visitors St Johnstone when the two sides meet at the K-Park Training Academy in this opening fixture in Group F of this season’s League Cup.
East Kilbride won last season’s Lowland League title by a seven-point margin over runners-up Celtic B U21 which earned them a tilt at the League Two basement club, Bonnyrigg Rose in a two-legged relegation/promotion play-off.

The Kilby have produced recent promising club friendly results against Dunfermline 1-0 and Greenock Morton 2-2 but Mick Kennedy’s side are likely to face a tough challenge in the shape of St Johnstone in this cup clash.
St Johnstone not only finished bottom of the Scottish Premiership table at the end of the regular season but the visitors also came bottom of the subsequent Relegation Round table as well, meaning The Saints find themselves in the Championship this season.
Losing four of their final five games of last season in the domestic top flight only served to confirm their relegation down to the second tier while results in recent friendlies against Forfar Athletic and Scottish Premiership newcomers, Falkirk, have also been disappointing as they drew and lost respectively.
Nevertheless, St Johnstone finished top of last season’s Group F table in the group stage of the League Cup thanks to wins against Brechin City, Greenock Morton and East Fife.
