Raith Rovers will be eager to build upon their excellent start to this season’s Scottish League Cup campaign when they play host to league newcomers East Kilbride at Stark’s Park on Tuesday night having inflicted a heavy defeat upon Elgin City in their opening game in Group F.
Indeed, Raith Rovers registered a comprehensive 5-1 victory away from home against Elgin City at Borough Briggs to lift the upcoming hosts into top spot in the Group F table and manager Barry Robson will be looking for more of the same when they entertain East Kilbride back on home soil.
The Rovers narrowly missed out on a play-off spot in the Scottish Championship last season as they finished just two points shy of 4th placed Partick Thistle, while in last season’s League Cup Raith Rovers finished runners-up in Group H but four points behind the group winners Ross County.
East Kilbride suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to St Johnstone in their opening game in Group F and although the visitors will be plying their trade in the professional ranks of Scotland this season, Mick Kennedy’s side face another tough fixture away from home at Raith Rovers on Tuesday night.
The former Lowland League outfit replaced Scottish League Two side Bonnyrigg Rose after beating the relegated league outfit 3-1 on aggregate over two legs in the relegation/promotion play-offs but East Kilbride could be gearing themselves up for a tough campaign this term.
East Kilbride had topped the Lowland League table at the end of last season’s campaign where they held a seven-point margin over the runners-up Caledonian Braves but they did feature in the Scottish League Cup last term.
However, the visitors finished 4th in a five-team Group A thanks to losses at the hands of Airdrieonians 8-0, Aberdeen 4-0 and Queen of the South 3-1 respectively.
