Kilmarnock opened their account in this season’s Scottish League Cup in promising fashion as they registered a 2-0 win away from home at Brora Rangers which in turn has lifted Killie into top spot in the Group H table.
Scottish Premiership hosts, Kilmarnock, finished last season’s top flight campaign in a disappointing 9th place which meant they had to finish the second phase of the season in the Relegation Round group but the hosts ensured top flight status for this season as they held a seven-point cushion over the relegation play-off club, Ross County.
Stuart Kettlewell’s side ended last season’s campaign with back-to-back losses at the hands of Motherwell and Hearts but a pre-season friendly against Ayr United saw Killie register a elcome 1-0 win prior to the start of the group stage of this season’s League Cup.
Livingston secured promotion back up to the Scottish Championship after replacing Ross County with a 5-3 win on aggregate over two legs in the relegation/promotion play-off and the visitors also produced a winning start to this season’s League Cup competition as well, beating East Fife 2-1 away from home.
Livingston achieved a strong run-in at the end of last season’s Scottish Championship campaign as they recorded home and away wins against Partick Thistle in the semi-finals of the relegation/promotion play-offs together with the subsequent win against Ross County.
However, David Martindale’s side failed to qualify from Group E in last season’s League Cup as they finished runners-up behind Spartans having slipped to a 1-0 loss to their group rivals and therefore had an inferior head-to-head record.
The Betting Verdict
Kilmarnock have held the upper hand over Livingston in recent exchanges as Killie are unbeaten in the last four encounters, picking up three wins in the process.
