Real Madrid suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Celta Vigo in La Liga over the weekend which saw Xabi Alonso’s side gift a four-point lead to Barcelona at the top of the La Liga table ahead of Wednesday night’s mouthwatering duel with Manchester City.

Stalemates with Rayo Vallecano, Elche and Girona, all in La Liga, suggest a vulnerable edge to Real Madrid’s recent form and one that could be exploited by an in-form Manchester City outfit especially with the likes of Phil Foden returning to the fold.
Onto Manchester City, and Pep Guardiola’s side eroded Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League to just a two-point margin after recording a comprehensive 3-0 home win against surprise package, Sunderland, on the weekend.
That victory at the Etihad Stadium became a third win on the trot for City in the domestic top flight which included previous wins against Leeds United and Fulham but Wednesday night’s visitors know they must transfer their recent league form across to the Champions League stage at the Bernabéu if they’re to feature in the top 16 in the ladder stage.
A 2-0 loss at home to German club Bayer Leverkusen will have served as a wake-up call for Manchester City and in particular their ambitions for making it into the knockout stage of the competition, so expect a very different outcome on Wednesday night.
