World Cup News :: European Qualifiers for World Cup : what teams need to qualify

The European Qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup are reaching their business end in mid-November

Teams have only one or two matches each left to play between 11 and 16 November, after which the ten direct qualifiers and 12 play-off contenders will be confirmed. We look at the state of play across the ten groups.

Only two sides, Denmark and Germany have confirmed their place in Qatar as Group winners - here are how the other groups stand.

Group A : Portugal and Serbia are confirmed as the top two. First place will be decided when they meet on 14 November.

Group B : Sweden lead on 15 points and will win the group with four points, while Spain will be i the top two if they avoid defeat against Greece and can still top the group with two wins.

Group C : Italy and Switzerland are confirmed as the top two tied on 14 points each. They meet on 12 Nov, but final positions will probably be decided on final day of qualification (15 Nov).

Group D : France will qualify as group winners if they beat Kazakhstan, while Bosnia and Finland meet on 13 Nov and the winner will have best chance at runner-up.

Group E : Belgium lead group and will qualify with a win against Estonia. Wales need to beat Belarus and then get something from their final game against Belgium to finish second otherwise the Czech Republic can snatch the runners-up spot.

Group F : Denmark are already group winners, Scotland need just two points from their games against Moldova and Denmark.

Group G : Netherlands (19) and Norway (17) look likely and meet in the final game on 16 Nov, but Turkey (15) can snatch second spot if results go their way.

Group H : Russia (19) and Croatia are confirmed as the top two and meet on 14 Nov to decide the group winner.

Group I : England (20) will win the group if they can earn 4 points against Albania and San Marino, Poland will seal a top-two finish if they beat Andorra and Albania do not beat England.

Group J : Germany (21) are group winners, while Romania (13), North Macedonia (12), and Armenia (12) are battling for the runner-up spot.
