Birmingham midfielder Sebastian Larsson is set to return from a knee injury and Olivier Kapo is also pressing for a place in the starting line-up.

But Blues skipper Damien Johnson is still serving a three-match ban.

Liverpool are set to rest key players ahead of their Champions League game at Chelsea and are without Fabio Aurelio, who has a torn abductor muscle.

Jermaine Pennant, David Martin, Charles Itandje, Damien Plessis and Emiliano Insua could feature at St Andrews.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez on playing second-choice players:
"I know there has been criticism of what we did at Fulham. But teams have 38 games to play each season, that is enough. So you are responsible for your own luck.
