Italian Serie A News :: Arsenal to loan Senderos to AC Milan

Philippe Senderos is expected be loaned to AC Milan, according to reports in Italy.

Although neither Arsenal or Milan have confirmed the deal, according to the leading Italian sports dailies La Gazzetta dello Sport and Il Corriere dello Sport, Senderos has agreed to join the Serie A giants on a season-long loan, with the Rossoneri granted the option to sign the Switzerland international at a fixed price at the end of the season.

"The agencies here have reported that Senderos has joined but nothing is official," the Milan spokesman, Riccardo Colli, told the Guardian. "If a deal goes through in the next few days we will confirm as much on our official website."

Since his arrival at Arsenal from Servette in summer 2003 Senderos has struggled to hold down a regular place at the heart of the Arsenal defence, which is currently occupied by William Gallas and Kolo Toure.

Last week's arrival of Mikaël Silvestre from Manchester United appeared to further reduce the 23-year-old's prospects of adding to his 64 league appearances for the Gunners.

For Milan the arrival of Senderos, who was recently linked with a move to Newcastle, will help provide cover for an injury-ravaged defence.

Their captain Paolo Maldini and Alessandro Nesta have both continued to struggle with injuries, Dario Simic and Digao have left the club and the expected arrival of the Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic fell through at the last minute.
