Frank Lampard is back in training at Chelsea with a view to playing against Liverpool in the second leg of their Champions League clash at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

Lampard missed Chelsea's 2-1 Barclays Premier League win over Manchester United on Saturday following the death of his mother Pat from pneumonia last Thursday.

But the England midfielder is understood to have trained on Sunday and is expected to be back with the rest of the squad on Monday.

However "The Times" reports ...

Frank Lampard is likely to miss tomorrow's Champions League semi-final, second leg against Liverpool, despite returning to training after the death of his mother.

Lampard had signalled a determination to make himself available by reporting for training on his own on Sunday, but he did not complete a full session yesterday and remains fragile.

There are doubts as to whether he is ready for an emotional return at Stamford Bridge, particularly in such an important match.

A decision will be made after training Tuesday, but unless Lampard improves considerably he is unlikely to return to action before the funeral on Friday.
