Spanish La Liga News :: Barcelona remain six points clear after thrashing Malaga

Barcelona maintained their six-point lead at the top of the Primera Liga with a 6-0 mauling of Malaga at the Nou Camp on Sunday night.

Pep Guardiola's side were magnificent - especially in a first half which saw them score four times as Malaga, who started the day just five points outside the Champions League places, were torn apart.

Second-placed Real Madrid beat Almeria 3-0 to remain in touch with Barca after Marcelo opened the scoring, and Klaas Jan Huntelaar continued his rich vein of form with two second-half goals.



Sevilla convincingly beat giantkillers Real Valladolid 4-1 to stay in 3rd place.

Kanoute produced two clinical finishes to give Sevilla a 2-1 half-time lead before powering home a header midway through the second period to complete his treble while Luis Fabiano added his side's other goal just after half-time, taking the joint tally between him and Kanoute to nine goals in the last four games. Henok Goitom had equalised for the visitors in the 22nd minute.

Second-half goals from Santi Cazorla and Matias Fernandez gave Villarreal a deserved 2-0 win at home to Athletic Bilbao and Villarreal remain clearly in 4th place.

Villarreal took the lead through Spain winger Cazorla with just over 20 minutes left.

The home side missed several good chances to seal it in the latter stages against an Athletic side reduced to 10 men following the dismissal of midfielder Mikael Susaeta.

But Fernandez finally struck the clincher in added time to round off an important victory that keeps Villarreal in fourth place.
