Dutch EreDivision News :: Dutch Eredivision round-up for Sunday - Ajax and Feyenoord win - PSV held to shock draw
Posted on 2009-08-02 by Gooner
Ajax started the Martin Jol era with a 2-0 win at FC Groningen.
The arrival of Jol, brought in from Hamburg over the summer, has prompted talk of a title challenge at Ajax - the club have not landed the Dutch domestic crown for five years - and the early signs were encouraging.
Miralem Sulejmani opened the scoring eight minutes before half-time and Dennis Rommedahl made sure of the points with 18 minutes to go.
Groningen, who finished a surprising sixth last season, threatened early on through a Goran Levre effort which flashed just wide before the visitors took control.
Coach Mario Been got his Feyenoord career off to a winning start at the expense of his old club NEC Nijmegen witha 2-0 home win.
In an entertaining Eredivisie clash at De Kuip, Jon Dahl Tomasson opened the scoring after 10 minutes, but Feyenoord had to wait until the 76th minute for a second, Leroy Fer converting from the penalty spot.
PSV Eindhoven had to settle for a 3-3 draw against newly-promoted VVV-Venlo, despite leading 2-0 and 3-2.
Nordin Amrabat and Ola Toivonen put PSV 2-0 ahead at half-time, but Achmed Ahahaoui and Keisuke Honda hauled VVV back level by the hour mark.
Toivonen restored PSV's lead with eight minutes remaining, but an equaliser three minutes later from Ruben Schaken secured an impressive result for the visitors.
Europa League qualifiers NAC Breda won 2-1 at ADO Den Haag.
Anthony Lurling gave the visitors the lead three minutes before the break and Ghanaian striker Matthew Amoah, who scored 14 league goals for NAC last season, added his team's second in the 67th minute.
Den Haag's Slovakian defender Csaba Horvath pulled one back eight minutes later but Robert Maaskant's side held on for three points.
