Champions League News :: UEFA Champions League play-off round draw - Arsenal get Celtic

Arsenal must overcome Celtic if they are to return to the UEFA Champions League group stage following the draw for the play-off round in Nyon.

Olympique Lyonnais (FRA) v RSC Anderlecht (BEL)
Celtic FC (SCO) v Arsenal FC (ENG)
FC Timişoara (ROU) v VfB Stuttgart (GER)
Sporting Clube de Portugal (POR) v ACF Fiorentina (ITA)
Panathinaikos FC (GRE) v Club Atlético de Madrid (ESP)

Based on UEFA seeds Arsenal could have got Fiorentina, Atletico Madrid, Anderlecht, Timisoara or Celtic.

Celtic will be a tough opponent, but not the worst draw.

I'd have preferred Anderlecht simply to have echos of the Arsenal v Anderlecht 1970 Fairs Cup final (was that REALLY 40 years ago?) which is probably one of my earliest memories of football.

The first leg ties will be played 18th/19th August, with the return match a week later.
