Rubin Kazan retain Russian title after scoreless draw

Russia's defending champions Rubin Kazan retained their title with a 0-0 home draw with Zenit St Petersburg after their closest pursuers Spartak Moscow lost 3-2 in the Moscow derby with CSKA.

Saturday's results left Kazan with 60 points from 29 matches with an unassailable five-point lead ahead of Spartak with one game left to play.

"This year it was much harder to win the title than a year ago," Rubin skipper Sergei Semak said. "It's a pity we did not score today but nevertheless we deservedly won the title. It's a big success for Kazan for all of us."

Zenit St Petersburg and Lokomotiv Moscow share third on 51 points.
