Eircom Leagues News :: Cobh focus on home form

Cobh Ramblers captain Alan Carey has revealed that his team’s home form could be the thing that steers them away from relegation.

With three teams set to go down this season, the newly promoted side are fully aware that they are one of the clubs tipped to drop out of the Premier Division. But Carey thinks they will survive due to their excellent home form.

Stephen Henderson’s charges are unbeaten in their three home games so far this campaign, but their impressive stint at St Colman’s Park stretches back beyond their recent promotion to the top flight.

After beating Shamrock Rovers to claim their first win of the season, Carey, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, is quick to point to Ramblers’ ability to fend off the challenge of any team at home as the reason why they secured that victory.

"I think our home form is going to keep us up," Carey said.
"We’ve showed in our home games already that we are very hard to beat on our own patch. Even in the games that we drew (against Galway United and Cork City), we were the better side and could have won those games.

“We know that we can beat teams down here and I think that sends a message out to the other teams in the league that we won’t easily give up wins at home.

"Now we just have to keep that up and add a few positive away results to it so that we can push up the league. It is always going to be difficult to pick up points against the bigger clubs away, but at home we are confident of beating anyone."
