Are you getting excited yet? Because we certainly are.

We're talking about the World Cup in South Africa, of course, which kicks off exactly 100 days from today, when the hosts South Africa take on Mexico in front of 91,000 people at the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg.

So to begin the countdown we look over the main World Cup markets that we'll be revisiting on a regular basis as the showpiece tournament gets ever closer...

World Cup Group winner Bets

We've spent the last eight weeks previewing every group at the World Cup.

If you missed them then here is a summary as we tipped France and South Africa (Group A), Argentina and Nigeria (Group B), England and USA (Group C), Germany and Ghana (Group D), Holland and Denmark (Group E), Italy and Paraguay (Group F), Brazil and Portugal (Group G), and Spain and Chile (Group H) to all qualify for the last 16.

Betfair's group markets allow punters to bet on group winners, qualifiers, who'll finish rock bottom and straight and dual forecasts.

World Cup Top scorer bet

In his current form, Wayne Rooney could probably outscore his rivals just using his head, so it's no surprise that he's the current favourite at 10.5 to win the golden boot.

Spain's deadly duo of David Villa (13.0) and Fernando Torres (14.0) are second and third favourites, though ironically the fact that Spain have two strikers capable of scoring a bagful might restrict both from doing so - as they'll be forced to share the joy.

As for an outsider, why not plump for another Premier League man in form this season - Carlos Tevez. He's priced at a whopping 60.0, and given that Argentina have a far from daunting group, a few early goals for Carlitos could make him a great trading option.

And for such an accomplished World Cup goalscorer (he has ten in two tournaments), Miroslav Klose is also very tempting at 34.0.

World Cup Outright Winner Bets

European champions Spain remain the favourites at 5.5, closely followed by Brazil (6.4) and, cough, England (6.8).

Given recent events with injuries and off-the-field distractions, we think that's a tad short for Capello's men.

Instead, the value bets are from outside the top three, with reigning champs Italy priced at 15.0, along with perennial big-tournament performers Germany.

Also, if you agree with us that the likes of Ghana (75.0), Paraguay (95.0) and Denmark (160.0) will qualify from their groups, their big prices give a realistic opportunity to trade when their odds drop upon qualification.

Other World Cup punts

We spoke a while ago about the potential advantages of backing "no" on the First Time Winner market. The odds have since gone up to 1.65, a great price given that you get six World Cup favourites (Brazil, Germany, Argentina, France, Italy, England) for one price.

Then there's the market that allows you to pick the winning confederation.

Given that our group previews had eight going through from Europe, it's no wonder that UEFA is just 1.57, but CONMEBOL (South Africa) looks tempting at 3.65 - even if you discount Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile, as a duo, Brazil and Argentina look pretty formidable.
