Champions League News :: Betfair look at Tuesday's Champions League games

Posted on 2010-03-08 by Betfair

This is the stage of the Champions League where the pressure is on and managers really earn their corn.

Both Arsenal and Manchester United are at home this week but the tasks that lie ahead of them are vastly different.

Here's what I'm backing in Tuesday night's games...

Arsenal v FC Porto

We saw some strange refereeing decisions in Porto in the first leg and Arsenal fans will hope those don't prove to be the difference between them progressing or going out.

With Robin van Persie still out injured, I'd expect Nicklas Bendtner to lead the line in his absence, as I don't feel Eduardo has the physical presence to play the lone striker role.

Then it's Alex Song in behind a midfield four full of guile and creativity with players such as Samir Nasri and Tomas Rosicky - "ball players" who are capable of scoring goals.

The one concern I have is that Arsenal could be too adventurous and pay the price by being caught on the break. But the Gunners have a good record against Porto and should somehow find a way of progressing to the quarters.

Recommended Bet : Back Arsenal to qualify at 1.79
Correct Score : Arsenal win 2-0 at 9.4

Fiorentina v Bayern Munich

I was in Florence when the Viola beat Liverpool in what proved to be a nail in the Merseysiders' Champions League coffin. I wasn't too surprised with what I saw: Fiorentina were good at the back, kept possession well and took their chances when they came about.

Bayern Munich really rode their luck in the first leg but that's all in the past now and I feel they did enough in that match to go through.

If Munich find themselves on the back foot, they can rely on the pace of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery to make the most of whatever space is available and keeping that pair quiet is easier said than done.

Recommended Bet : Back Bayern Munich to qualify at 1.4
Correct Score : DRAW 1-1 at 7.2
