World Cup News :: Andrea Pirlo will miss at least the first group match for Italy

Italian playmaker Andrea Pirlo, the player of the match when Italy beat France to win the 2006 World Cup final, will miss their opening match against Paraguay on June 14 with a calf injury and is in doubt for the rest of the tournament.

Pirlo, widely regarded as Italy's best current outfield player, injured his left calf in last week's loss to Mexico and the Italian Football Federation confirmed the AC Milan midfielder had gone home to Italy to rest and would miss the opening match.
