Andres Iniesta's 116th minute goal won Spain the World Cup for the first time after they edged out the Netherlands in a scrappy, nervous, stop-start match in Johannesburg.

The game was a disappointment throughout - but Iniesta volleyed a pinpoint pass from Cesc Fabregas into the net from six yards out to claim the World Cup for Spain.

It was just about a deserved win for Spain who did dominate possession, although Spain won few friends with a display of theatrical dives, rolls, screams, and over-reactions for much of the 120 minutes. Hardly a heroic display.

FIFA do need to find a way to get the histrionics out of the game before Brazil in 2014, probably by giving the referee some sort of access to video replay technology.

The World Cup is over for four more years, and frankly not a moment to soon.
