Friendly News :: Emirates Cup : Pre-season form of AC Milan, Arsenal, Celtic and Lyon

The Emirates Cup is a pre-season tournament that will be more "pre-season than usual" as none of the clubs competing will be fielding any players that took part in the World Cup.

The teams are in a very different states of preparation.

AC Milan (Italy)

AC Milan have won the European Cup SEVEN times, but this current crop of players is less impressive, and Milan finished a distant 3rd in Serie A last season.

The Italian Serie A does not start until 28th August, so this Milan side are really only just getting started and are very under-done.

Milan pre-season results :
L 0-2 v Varese (who?) last Sunday

... errr that's it.

Glasgow Celtic (Scotland)

Celtic are the odds side out, already playing competitive games (losing 0-3 to FC Braga in a Champions League qualifier in midweek) - and with the return game next Wednesday it's hard to see Celtic too bothered about this fixture.

L 0-1 v Philadelhpia Union (US MLS)
L 1-3 v Manchester United
W 2-1 v Seattle Sounders
D 1-1 v Sporting Lisbon
W 4-1 v Lincoln City
L 0-3 v Braga (Chamions League)

Arsenal (England)

As hosts, Arsenal have to try a bit harder than most sides although the Gunners will still be without six players including Cesc Fabregas, Robin van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner.

Arsenal have played three pre-season games against light opposition - and had the traditional hard training in Austria under the watchful eye of Arsene Wenger.

The season proper beginning in a fortnights time for Arsenal with an away game against Liverpool in the league opener.

W 3-0 v Sturm Graz
W 4-0 v Neusiedl (v low league Austria)

Olympique Lyonnais (France)

Olympique Lyonnais are typically an exciting side to watch, and Lyon have a top quality European pedigree these days, playing in their 11th Champions League this season.

Lyon's league season starts next week (7th August) so they will be the best prepared of the teams.
