Eng. Championship News :: Warnock to put faith in youth

Posted on 2008-05-13 by Gooner

Neil Warnock wants his young Crystal Palace stars to "stand up and be counted" when they step out for Tuesday night's make-or-break Coca-Cola Championship play-off semi-final second leg at Bristol City.

The Eagles boss will unleash teenage hot-shots Victor Moses, Scott Sinclair and Sean Scannell into the tinderbox atmosphere of Ashton Gate as he attempts to overturn a 2-1 deficit from Saturday's first encounter.

Palace's record on the road stands up to any in the division and Warnock is backing his band of talented rookies - along with relative old heads such as Clinton Morrison, Shaun Derry and Clint Hill - to give their all in search of a trip to Wembley.

Warnock stoked up the second leg by branding City "arrogant" for their premature celebrations at Selhurst Park, and in typical style he is relishing the opportunity to upset the odds in the return.

"We don't fear playing anybody away from home. I think we have the best away record in the league regarding conceding goals," he said.

"It is another great challenge for me and my players, and we have got to stand up and be counted.

"It can only be a great experience for some of the youngsters because you don't get these sorts of atmospheres and pressures from normal league games. It can only stand them in good stead."

Warnock is unable to call on experienced striker James Scowcroft, who would also miss the final should Palace get through, after he suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury at Selhurst.

Young left-back Lee Hills will also sit out after suffering a training-ground knock.

"I've written James off now, while Lee hurt his knee and ankle in training and will miss the rest of the season," added Warnock.

Winger Kyel Reid, who is still on loan at Palace from West Ham, is set to be included in the squad.
