German Bundesliga News :: Eintracht Frankfurt look to Daum's magic touch for survival

A capacity 51,500 crowd will pack into the Commerzbank Arena on Friday evening for Eintracht Frankfurt's first home game under new coach Christoph Daum.

The vast majority will be there in the hope of the home side getting Matchday 29 under way with victory over Werder Bremen and securing three precious points towards their bid for Bundesliga survival.

Frankfurt's practice sessions have been screened off from public viewing this week and as a result, says the 57-year-old coach, "There's a quite different atmosphere at training. The vast majority of teams throughout Europe adopt the same procedure. Sometimes you have to be prepared to accept criticism for something you believe is right."

On the personnel front, the news for Daum is overwhelmingly good. Midfielders Pirmin Schwegler, Benjamin Köhler and Caio, defender Aleksandar Vasoski and striker Ioannis Amanatidis have all recovered from a variety of muscular problems and should make the squad against Bremen.

Doubt about Pizarro

The biggest question mark for the visitors on the personnel front is whether Claudio Pizarro will recover from an ankle injury in time to take his place up front.

Central defender Per Mertesacker (infection) and midfielder Tim Borowski (foot problem) should both be fit to start though and Philipp Bargfrede is set to return following a heel operation.

Aaron Hunt is down with the flu and a definite non-starter. "We need to be clear that we're in for a very tough game at Frankfurt", stressed Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf, who is also wary of the 'Daum factor': "Daum has his own special style and he'll use it to try and get a lot of things moving at Frankfurt."

Bremen meanwhile have been gearing up for Friday's game without the help of mental coach Jörg Löhr for the first time since their 2-2 draw with Leverkusen on Matchday 24.

The players have been unstinting in their praise of the motivational trainer, with keeper Tim Wiese commenting "He's helping us develop, things are definitely going better."
