The board are going to want to see more consistency from the Chelsea squad over the coming weeks and months and there is only so long that an excuse about this being a 'young squad' can be used. Winning the Conference League and Club World Cup will have raised expectations, but Chelsea are making hard work of the Champions League and the draw in Baku against Qarabag on Wednesday will be looked at very disapprovingly by most.

The last game before the November international break comes in the Premier League this Saturday and Chelsea have moved back up into 7th place in the standings after winning at Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. Depending on other results earlier in the day, Chelsea could potentially be sitting in 2nd place overnight and that will ease any pressure being felt by manager Enzo Maresca. The Blues have a 2-1-2 record at Stamford Bridge and that does need to be improved over the coming months.

Chelsea have lost 1 of their last 8 games in all competitions and they have picked up 6 wins in that time, which will have built up some real confidence. However, they were beaten 1-2 by Sunderland in the last Premier League game at Stamford Bridge, which snapped a 3 game winning run at home in all competitions.

Romeo Lavia came off with an early injury against Qarabag and is set to miss out, but Pedro Neto should be available. Some key players were given a bit of a rest in that Champions League game and a stronger Chelsea eleven is expected to be selected for this fixture.

Wolves

Just days before Christmas 2024, Vitor Pereira was appointed manager as Wolves and sparked a big turnaround for a club that looked destined for Relegation. His performance earned him a new contract in September, but six weeks later Vitor Pereira has been Sacked with Wolves once again looking in desperate trouble at the foot of the Premier League table and with fans clearly unhappy with what they have been watching.

The board have had discussions with Gary O'Neil, who was Sacked last year, but the former manager has turned the job down after those talks. It makes the November international break very important for the Wolves board to find the right appointment and it is set to be James Collins who leads them into this fixture. The side are 8 points from safety and travel to London with a 0-1-4 away record in the top flight.

Wolves have lost 4 games in a row in all competitions and the final straw for the board as far as Vitor Pereira went was the 3-0 defeat at Fulham, who had entered the game in 17th place in the Premier League table. The poor away form began at the end of last season and Wolves have lost 6 of their last 7 on their travels in the Premier League.

Emmanuel Agbadou did his team no favours by being sent off last week and he is going to be serving his suspension. Matt Doherty is set to miss out again and Rodrigo Gomes could be out for up to three months.

The big challenge for the Chelsea squad will be recovering from having played a game in Azerbaijan on Wednesday and then having to compete in this Premier League game on Saturday night.

These days you have to expect big Premier League clubs to be travelling in comfort, but it is always going to be a test to play in Europe during the week and find the energy to compete domestically days later.

That challenge is only greater when facing a well rested opponent, but Chelsea may have the perfect visitor to Stamford Bridge this weekend.

Inconsistency has been an issue for Chelsea, but this is a team that have won 6 of their last 8 games in all competitions. They were beaten at Stamford Bridge in the last League game played here against Sunderland, but Chelsea had won 3 in a row at home in all competitions prior to that and the visiting team is in a tough spot.

Last weekend Wolves visited West London and were well beaten by Fulham.

This result meant the end of Vitor Pereira's time as manager of the club and Wolves have yet to find someone who is willing to take on the task of keeping them in the Premier League. It is a great task with the team 8 points from safety and the only top flight club yet to win a League fixture this season, while it feels like all of the recent transfer activity is coming back to haunt them.

Key players have been sold in the summer windows of the last couple of years and Wolves look really short.

They are conceding far too many goals and they have lost 4 in a row in all competitions.

Wolves have simply put too much pressure on the attacking players to keep them competitive and this feels like another difficult game for a team lacking direction.

You do have to take note of the fact that Chelsea have not really been a team that have been blowing past opponents with only a couple of wins at home coming by more than a single goal margin. Despite the talent in forward areas, Chelsea can be wasteful and that may offer Wolves some encouragement.

However, it is going to take some turnaround for Wolves to be ready to earn a positive result here having been beaten in 2 of the last 3 visits and Chelsea are most likely going to find the right combination in the final third to secure a relatively comfortable win.
