Borussia Dortmund are on a run of seven unbeaten Bundesliga games, but three of their last five ended in draws. That includes their 1-1 away draw at SC Freiburg last week, where they (for the umpteenth time!) failed to keep their lead.

Their goalscorer in that match, Ramy Bensebaini, is out of the team and away at the Africa Cup of Nations, and Jobe Bellingham is suspended for a direct red card after a stupid foul last week. Julian Brandt and Marcel Sabitzer are also highly doubtful due to injuries, so coach Kovac may include some youngsters in the lineup.

Borussia Dortmund are actually doing better than last season, having seven points more than they had at this same stage last December. However, they are big 9 points behind Bayern Munich at the top, and will definitely not win the title this season.

Sometimes stats don’t mean anything, regardless of how impressive they look. For example, Borussia Dortmund had seven straight convincing wins against SC Freiburg before their last week’s duel, and so what? They still didn’t beat them. So take these stats as a fun fact, rather than anything serious.

Borussia Mönchengladbach lost 1-3 to Wolfsburg last week after going unbeaten in five games (three wins, two draws). However, that doesn’t change the fact that they are much improved under coach Eugen Polanski.
