Ecuador find themselves under pressure after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Ivory Coast in their opening match.

That result leaves little room for error, especially with Germany waiting in the final round. Sebastián Beccacece's side were solid defensively against the Ivorians but lacked creativity in the final third, something they must improve quickly.

The South Americans still possess one of the strongest defensive units in the group. Moisés Caicedo controls the midfield, while Piero Hincapié and Willian Pacho form an excellent partnership at the back.

On paper, Ecuador remains comfortably stronger than Curacao and will view this as a must-win fixture.

Curacao's World Cup debut was a harsh introduction to tournament football as they were beaten 7-1 by Germany.

To their credit, they continued to compete despite the scoreline and even managed to get on the scoresheet, but the difference in quality was clear throughout the match.

Dick Advocaat's side now face a different challenge. Against Germany they were expected to defend for long periods; against Ecuador they may see more of the ball but will still enter as underdogs.

Avoiding another defeat would keep their slim qualification hopes alive heading into the final group match against the Ivory Coast.

Ecuador have little choice but to attack. They need three points and know that dropping any here would leave them in serious danger of an early exit.

Curacao deserve credit for reaching the tournament, but the difference in quality between these teams is significant. Ecuador should dominate possession, create the better chances and eventually pull away.

Ecuador is not Germany, but they should be able to cover the -2.5 handicap here at pretty good odds.
