Preview
The Milwaukee Brewers (17-24) had lost 6 of their last 7 games before suddenly erupting at the plate with a 16-4 win over the Minnesota Twins yesterday. That meant they could salvage some pride after losing the first two games to them in the series, but it has still been a tough start for them in 2012.
They face the San Francisco Giants (21-20) who had won 3 games in row before losing to the Oakland Athletics yesterday.
The Giants will send Madison Bumgarner to the mound who has a 5-3 record and a 3.10 ERA this season, although he is coming in off a couple of rough outings. In his last 13 innings pitched, Bumgarner has allowed 9 runs from 14 hits and he will be looking to bounce back against the Brewers.
Bumgarner has owned the Brewers in his starts against them, going 3-1 from 4 career starts against them with a 1.27 ERA, his best ERA against any team he has faced more than twice. He held Milwaukee to 1 run from 7 innings in a meeting earlier this season.
He may have a good chance to get another win over the Brewers on the board if Randy Wolf cannot find his command on the mound. Wolf is 2-4 with a 6.38 ERA and he comes into this game having given up 7 runs and issued 3 walks in just 4 innings pitched against the Houston Astros.
Wolf gave up 4 runs and 9 hits in 6 innings pitched against San Francisco earlier this season and was handed the loss although he has pitched well against the Giants for the most part. He has a 4-3 record with a 2.06 ERA in his last 11 starts against San Francisco.
Head to Head
This is the second and final series between the teams this season after San Francisco took 2 of 3 games back in California earlier on.
Milwaukee have won their last 2 home games against the Giants, although they were 1-8 in the previous 9 games here before that.
Milwaukee are 10-11 at home, San Francisco are 9-10 on the road.
Prediction
I am going to back the San Francisco Giants to keep the pressure on Randy Wolf and the Milwaukee Brewers in this one and I am not quite sure why they have been set as the underdogs in this one.
San Francisco have a good record in Milwaukee, while they do have the pitching edge and I think they should really be the favourites and the odds may be the wrong way around because the Brewers exploded for 16 runs last night.
