This is Game 1 of a Double Header on Wednesday
A big week for the New York Yankees (70-60) did not get off to the start they would have wanted when they fell in the opening of this three game series with the Cleveland Indians (74-56). That loss has seen the Yankees slip back to 3.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox in the American League East with that four game set with the Red Sox about to begin on Thursday.
On the other hand the Cleveland Indians have won five games in a row as they have built a 7 game lead in the American League Central. They have also moved to 5 games behind the best record in the American League in general and the Cleveland Indians do feel they are rounding into form ahead of the postseason having finished as World Series Runners Up in 2016.
It has taken some time to get used to the fact that the Indians blew a 3-1 lead in the World Series but they look back to the best now. They will be looking to complete another series win by giving the ball to Trevor Bauer who is also trending in the right direction.
Bauer has a 13-8 record with a 4.59 ERA in 2017 but it has been five weeks since he was last handed a loss and he has been pitching well since mid-July. The pitcher can be thankful to the batting line up that Bauer escaped with a win over the Boston Red Sox despite giving away four runs in over 5 innings pitched against them.
He will be looking to bounce back with a much better start on Tuesday although Bauer is only 2-4 with a 4.62 ERA in his seven starts against the New York Yankees. That does include his last outing against them when Bauer held the Yankees to a single run in 7 innings pitched against them earlier this month.
While Bauer is looking to continue his strong run of form, New York will be hoping Jaime Garcia can earn his first decision win for the Yankees since arriving from Minnesota. Garcia is 5-8 with a 4.52 ERA this season, but he is 0-1 with a 5.95 ERA since pitching for the New York Yankees.
The pitcher gave up four runs, two of those earned, in 4 innings in his last start against the Detroit Tigers, but once again Garcia was not involved in the decision. Despite playing in the same Division as the Cleveland Indians earlier this season, Garcia's sole outing against them came in his Yankees debut and he was batted around for six runs in under 5 innings pitched as Garcia took the decision loss.
Prediction
I picked the Cleveland Indians to win as the underdog at Yankee Stadium on Monday and I think they can do the same on Tuesday.
Once again I think the Indians have the edge on the mound over the New York Yankees and that can help them achieve the series win while winning the second game in a row as the underdog.
