Preview
Time is running out for these two teams to show they should be buying at the trade deadline... Instead, key players could soon be departing and this series has become very important for both the Baltimore Orioles (52-55) and the Detroit Tigers (50-57).
Both are not only looking to find a way to get back into Division races, but Baltimore are 2 games out of the Wild Card picture and the Detroit Tigers are 2 further games away. That means there are big decisions to make about important personnel on the roster and the Orioles have amped up the pressure on the Tigers by taking the first game on Monday evening.
Detroit are going to give the ball to Troy Melton on Tuesday and this is a pitcher that will be sticking around after the trade deadline no matter how things shape up this week. Barring a monstrous offer, the Tigers will look for Troy Melton to build on his 5-1 record and 1.95 ERA that he has put together in 2026.
Troy Melton had allowed just three runs in the previous five starts, but gave up two runs in 5 Innings thrown against the Kansas City Royals most recently. He did not factor into the decision that day, but Melton will be looking to produce better command on the mound and earn some rest for the relievers coming out of the bullpen.
In his first start of the season, Melton almost completed 6 Innings in holding the Baltimore Orioles to a single run on the road and he picked up the decision win.
The Orioles did take two of three at home against the Tigers in that previous series and they are looking to build on the opening win. They will hand the ball to Dean Kremer who has a 1-3 record and 5.06 ERA in six starts made this season.
There is a possibility that Dean Kremer would be moved on, but Baltimore are close enough to the Wild Card places to believe they will try and keep the roster intact, at least as much as possible.
Dean Kremer has had a mixed July with a couple of starts seeing him hold teams to less than three runs, but in the other two he has given up at least four runs. Last time out, Kremer was knocked around for six runs in 6 Innings thrown against the Boston Red Sox and was saddled with the decision loss.
Last season he was one out away from completing 6 Innings in a road start in this ballpark, but Dean Kremer allowed five runs in that time and took the decision loss.
Prediction
This is a big series for both of these American League teams and it is the Detroit Tigers who can bounce back in the second of the set.
The Pick :
Detroit Tigers 5-2 Baltimore Orioles
