Preview
There will be very little rush to get out and oppose the Oklahoma City Thunder (23-1) as potential back to back NBA Champions after a historic start made by the team. They have won fifteen in a row since the one and only loss suffered in this campaign and the Thunder have matched the strong starts made by the Golden State Warriors in 2015 and New York Knicks all the way back in 1969.
The likes of the Houston Rockets and Denver Nuggets look best placed to have something to say about the Thunder's progress, but this is a team that is not only winning games, but crushing all in front of them. Last season the average point differential ended just over 12 points per game, but they are running at over 16 points per game this season and there has been little sign of this young, extremely talented group of being ready to take a step backwards.
Next up is the NBA Cup Quarter Final against the Phoenix Suns (14-10) who have been better than advertised.
The Suns will need Devin Booker to be suited up and ready to give them a chance, but this looks another incredibly tough spot for any team with the Thunder looking highly motivated to win everything they possibly can.
It is pointless to think that anything other than the Oklahoma City Thunder putting together another Offensive masterclass is going to happen in this game. They are a team that is hugely efficient from the field, while also being strong enough on the glass to bring down second chance points on those occasions when they do miss.
Piling up the three point successes makes it very challenging for any team to keep up with them, as the point differential is making clear, and the Thunder look a team that can blow away any.
The key to the entire outcome of this game is whether the Phoenix Suns can hit enough three pointers of their own to at least stick within this monster line set.
When they met at the end of November, Phoenix did put up enough three pointers, but were also very strong on the glass with a clear edge in the Rebound numbers. That is going to be needed again, especially as they were still beaten by 4 points in that game, and the Suns will have to play as close to their best as possible to simply make this competitive.
Standing in front of the buzzsaw of the Thunder is not something you will see too often on these pages until the post-season at the very least, but this is a big setting in the NBA Cup and the Suns may have just enough shooting and battling on the boards to keep this one close enough on the scoreboard.
Prediction
Any time the Oklahoma City Thunder head to the court, there is a chance we will see a blowout win for the NBA Champions.
However, the Phoenix Suns could have Devin Booker available for this NBA Cup Quarter Final and that may help them find enough shooting to keep this game within the huge spread set.
