BETTING PREVIEW

Slovenia and Switzerland will meet in Group E action, with both nations looking for their first points in the qualifying stage. Switzerland lost their opener 2-0 at home against England, the group favourites, while Slovenia suffered a 1-0 defeat away in Estonia. History suggests Slovenia will struggle to get something out of this game.

This Swiss side is capable of some excellent performances, as I have been pointing out for some years now. They gave a fantastic account of themselves in Brazil, only just missing out against Argentina by a 1-0 score, and while they have suffered a home defeat, they did well to shut England out for the first half before Danny Welback's brace.

Slovenia have just 1 win in 7 meetings with Switzerland, losing 5. Indeed, their record when hosting Switzerland reads 2 defeats and a draw. These two teams were drawn together in qualifying for the World Cup too, so the last meetings were quite recent. Switzerland won both games, with a 2-0 win in Slovenia where they scored in both halves, and then 1-0 back in Switzerland.

Slovenia didn't impress in Estonia at all, with barely any chances created and poor shooting when they did. Estonia soaked up the pressure as Slovenia bossed possession and did what they had to, and I feel Switzerland are a side that will comfortable soak up anything Slovenia can throw at them, and could still sucker punch them at any time.

THE BETTING VERDICT

It might be close for a while but I feel this has a 1-0 or 2-0 feel to it. The odds are decent enough for me to take Switzerland, who must realise they need to win games like this to have a chance of getting to the tournament in France.
