Everton managed to break out of their goal drought by scoring 2 goals at Newcastle, but could not win because they let in 3. Anyway, they should have some confidence coming into this game against a Hull side that was beaten by bottom of the table Leicester.
Hull City have lost 3 of their last 4 games, and have failed to win any of their last 3 home games, drawing 0-0 with West Brom and then beaten 1-0 by Swansea and then Leicester. The lack of goals should be a concern but now they face an Everton side whose defence has really slipped from last season. Last year Everton conceded just 39 goals all season, and already they have shipped 31 this season. With the Everton manager refusing to consider changing his tactics, it's likely the FA Cup runners-up will have chances to get on the scoresheet here.
Everton have won 4 of the 7 league meetings with Hull, losing just once. Their game at Goodison this season, in early December not long ago, ended 1-1.
We really should have cashed a third 3.00 priced bet in Everton's last game but were undone by the team selection. Lukaku, my pick for anytime goalscorer started on the bench, and his replacement opened the scoring for Everton in a game they lost 3-2 at Newcastle. I'm expecting Lukaku to start this one, in which case the argument from the last game still stands.
I bet on Lukaku against Newcastle because he had scored 4 in his last 4 appearances against the Magpies, and you'll find he has scored in 2 of his 3 meetings with Hull City as an Everton player.
THE BETTING VERDICT
I considered betting on both teams to score in this one as it seems an easy pick at a good 1.90 price. However, Lukaku is available at 3.12 for this one and if he gets the start ahead of Kone he is a great bet to net a goal.
